Arrest of Ex- Congress MLA's Son in Bilaspur Firing Incident Sparks a major Political storm in Himachal Pradesh... Bilaspur's MLA was the supporter of Late Virbhadra Singh, six-time CM of Himachal.
SHIMLA/BILASPUR: Political tensions have escalated in Himachal Pradesh following the arrest of Puranjan Thakur, the son of former MLA Bambar Thakur, in connection with the Bilaspur firing incident.
Puranjan was apprehended by police on Thursday morning outside the district court, just before he was due to surrender by a court-ordered deadline of 10:00 AM.
The incident in question occurred on June 20, when shots were fired at a young man in broad daylight near the Bilaspur district court.
According to the police, Puranjan Thakur was the mastermind behind the attack. The shooter, identified as Sunny Gill, confessed during interrogation that he was hired by Puranjan.
Gill disclosed that he had already received part of his payment, with the remainder promised upon completing the job, revealed sources.
This development has not only heightened the law and order debate but also stirred political waters in the state. The BJP had earlier threatened to launch a major agitation over the incident, criticizing the handling of the case.
Former MLA Bambar Thakur had previously accused high-ranking BJP leaders, including Health Minister JP Nadda and Trilok Jamwal, of orchestrating attacks against him, claiming he was targeted by goons at their behest.
He was also on record leveling allegations against the top Policemen as well that has brought the Sukhu government under lense.
These allegations were vehemently denied by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan, who accused Bambar Thakur of making baseless claims to divert attention from his own misdoings.
Adding to the intrigue, another key figure, Malli, who allegedly provided the shooter, remains at large.
Police teams have been actively searching for him, intensifying their efforts in the past few days.
Interestingly PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh had came out in open support with Bambar Thakur, but the CM had observed the hushed silence when Bambar Thakur was attacked earlier.
Puranjan Thakur's arrest has brought in fresh scrutiny and political maneuvering.
Himachal Pradesh is in for brewing of a storm, with accusations and counter-accusations flying between political rivals.
This incident underscores the deepening rift and escalating drama in the corridors of power.
