Shimla: High Court of Himachal Pradesh has ruled in favor of Language Teachers (LT) and Shastris who were re-designated as Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT)-Sanskrit and TGT-Hindi, respectively.
These qualified educators had sought fair treatment in terms of pay scale and promotional opportunities.
The petitioners, all possessing B.Ed. qualifications and having passed the Teachers Eligibility Test, argued that despite the change in job titles, they were not receiving the pay scale and promotional avenues granted to TGTs in other disciplines.
They emphasized the need for parity in both remuneration and career progression.
After careful consideration, the High court acknowledged that the responsibilities of TGTs in Sanskrit and Hindi closely resembled those of TGTs in Medical, Non-Medical, and Arts subjects. However, TGTs in the latter categories enjoyed a higher pay scale.
As a result of this ruling, the court has directed the State Government to grant the petitioners the same pay scale as Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) and provide them with the opportunity for promotion to the post of Lecturer (School Cadre).
This directive is to be implemented from the date of the notification issued on 20th August 2022, and the government has been given a seven-day timeframe to comply with the court's decision.
