In the serene hills of Himachal Pradesh, a mystical knowledge known as "Sancha Vidya" has been quietly safeguarded by the descendants of Kashmiri Pandits for centuries.

Combining Jyotish (astrology) and Tantric wisdom, this ancient tradition, flourishing in regions like Shimla and Sirmour, is considered a priceless asset.

Believed to have journeyed from Kashmir hundreds of years ago, the custodians of this esoteric legacy, known as Pabuch or Baat, hold expertise in the unique combination of Mantra, Yantra, and Tantra.

The script of Sancha, known as Bhatakshri or Pabuch, is enriched with dialects such as Chandvani, Pandavni, and Bhatakshri.

Written on wood paper and covered with processed 'Kakar mirg,' the Sancha is inscribed using the sap of 'Bhael berries.' It's not just a book; it also includes a 'Pasha,' a Kakar mirg bone carved into four faces, each marked with 0, 00, 000, and 0000, along with 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Pabuch pandits carry both the Sancha and Pasha, utilizing them to provide 'Faaladesh' or predictions when consulted by individuals seeking answers to questions ranging from dosha and inquiries to marriage and sickness.

Renowned Sancha pandits in areas like Shimla's Chopal and Sirmour's Shilai, such as Pt. Sudarshan Vashist, Pt. Devi Ram, and Moti Ram Ram Saran, Pt Sant Ram, Pt Lachi Ram, Pt Sundar and now Pt Suresh(Bateuri) have dedicated their lives to studying and researching Sancha's dialects and predictions. Traditionally consulted for various actions and situations, including agricultural practices and travels, Pabuch pandits play a crucial role in the lives of the local populace.

In recent times, this ancient practice is facing a decline, with fewer individuals carrying the torch of Sancha Vidya.

The art of making Jantris, astrological calendars, has become a rarity.

Yet, some, like Jyoti Ram Jyotshi and Naktu Ram,  Pt Suresh continue to mesmerize with their accurate predictions, maintaining the enchanting legacy of Sancha Vidya in the hills of Himachal Pradesh.

Despite science's skepticism, those who have experienced it find themselves going home with a sense of positivity and wonder.
