SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Council for Science Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE) today began a week long program- glorious science week - Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate here on Tuesday at Centre of Excellence, Government Post-Graduate College, Sanjauli, Shimla.
"The objective of Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate is to celebrate achievements of science and technology over the last 75 years through this programme that would inspire youth. Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate is a pan India program to showcase science, technology and innovation from every part of the country", said Dr Sudesh Mokhta, member-secretary, HIMCOSTE.
Major General Atul Kaushik S&M, VSM (Retd.), Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission, chief guest, said this event will bring to the fore the stories of people in science who have made great achievements in the field of science technology. The scientists help reinforce our commitment to social and economic development as well.
He highlighted the main objective of program saying that it encourages the students to adopt science as a career in future studies. He cited the achievements of various scientists like Dr. CV Raman, Arya Bhatt, Dr. Abdul Kalam, who have made commendable contributions to science and society. He gave the message to the students to follow their passion and live in the present.
Maukhta said this event is being held simultaneously in 75 locations across the country as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Under this event four themes have been recognized for the weeklong celebration. These are annals of history of science, milestones of modern Science and Technology, Swadeshi Paramparik Inventions and Innovations, Transforming India.
These themes will be covered on different days and experts shall provide an insight through their talks on various topics relevant to these themes. In addition there will be Science quiz competitions, exhibition of science models and screening of award winning documentaries on the relevant themes. Students of nearby educational institutions are attending this event, Maukhta said
Addressing the inaugural function Satpal Dhiman, Additional Secretary, Environment, Science &Technology and Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE, said, ‘‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” shall culminate on 28th February, 2022 with the Yuva Vigyan Puraskar celebrations on 28th February, 2022 on National Science Day-2022. The Yojna focused on four themes which are going to be celebrated under this programme.
HIMCOSTE aims at inculcating scientific temper and awareness on various scientific aspects among students. Under the Yuva Vigyan Puraskar Yojana, awards of Rs. 10,000 to 1,00,000 are given every year to the students of 10+2 (Science Stream), who bag the top ten positions in Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education examinations, Maukhta said.
College principal Dr. Chander Bhan Mehta gave vote of thanks saying that the week-long festival in their campus has given them a golden opportunity to all students to learn from the scientific activities.
