His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s last survivor among seven Indian soldiers, Havaldar Naren Chandra Das, who had received and escorted the Dalai Lama when he had stepped on Indian soil in 1959 died at his native village Lokra in Assam today.
Havaldar (Retd) Naren Chandra Das, 89, was the veteran Assam Rifles passed away at his Lokra village in Assam today. He was last survivor among seven soldiers who had received and escorted the young Dalai Lama.
Expressing their tributes and condolences to their veteran Assam Rifles gave him full honour during his last journey. Das had met with the Dalai Lama and the Assam Rifles have sent their picture on social media.
