AGARTALA: A BSF head constable Girjesh Kumar Uddey was martyred and two other jawans sustained injuries in the line of duty after the BSF patrol he was leading was ambushed near Panisagar on the Indo-Bangladesh border by the banned NLFT(BM) insurgents, who fired indiscriminately on them today morning.
According to the BSF, the BSF patrol fired back at the insurgents who were hiding behind the fenced border, but they retreated deep into the dense Chittagong Hill tracts, said BSF.
Uddey sustained grievous injuries in the attack as four bullets hit him. He along with two others were airlifted to the hospital, but he succumbed later.
The attack came on the BSF jawans today when people of Tripura were celebrating 114th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram, who is remembered as an architect of modern Tripura.
The attack has also come as a reminder to the BSF and Indian army that the insurgents are still active along the border in Tripura’s north districts and they are finding easy hideouts in Bangladesh dense forest border areas.
The government has banned the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) (BM).

Today people of Tripura paid respect to Maharaja Bir Bikram. As respects towards him this day is first declared the state holiday by the government and the new airport has been named after him, Saha add.
