CM Sukhu opening the IGMC's New OPD Block in Shimla on Thursday

SHIMLA: After a long wait, the patients and their attendants and medicos  have got a breather from the chock-a-block Indira Gandhi Medical college and hospital(IGMC). Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today dedicated Its 12- storied  'Trauma Centre' in the new  OPD block built at the cost of Rs. 30.90 crore.

The new OPD ward has paved way for the doctors, the paramedical staff  for better working environment and  the patients will get "best medical care".

This will also reduce congestion due to heavy rush of the patients in the chaotic  OPDs and Emergency.

Sukhu said said a sum of Rs. 12 crore is being spent to buy new equipment and machinery for the surgery wing, the orthopedic unit, the radiology and anesthesia section.

The new OPD block will house a Physiotherapy ward, Special wards, Emergency Unit, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Isolation ward, Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan, X-ray, Sample Collection Centre and Pathology lab facilities.

The block will have a special provision to treat the seriously injured and other serious patients on priority. The building has spacious waiting longue for the patients and their attendants.

Besides,  it will have separate cabins for the CMO and other paramedical staff.

The Chief Minister also interacted with the patients, the hospital staff and also inspected the new OPD block.

He said that the Government was committed to fortify the health infrastructure and separate departments would be setup to strengthen the emergency medical treatment in all the medical colleges of the state.

There will be a provision of one nurse attending to six beds and a one doctor to attend to the ten beds with patients.

Besides, there will be specialist doctors and paramedical staff to attend to one bed each in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He said that the state government would soon start the Robotic Surgery facility in each of the medical college in the state to provide the world's best health facilities to the people.

Apart from this, 5-G technology will be included in these health institutions to provide state-of-the-art medical services.

He said that modern technology-rich and hi-tech hospitals will be set up in each medical block to provide excellent health facilities near their homes.

Shimla MLA (urban), Harish Janartha thanked the Chief Minister for providing state-of-the-art health services to the people at IGMC, which will give them a big relief from congestion.

The entire team of IGMC and other department work overtime and complete the project in time, he added. 

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister, Anirudh Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Sanjay Awasthi, Secretary Health, M. Sudha Devi, OSD to Chief Minister, Gopal Sharma, Principal of IGMC, Dr. Sita Thakur, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Rahul Rao and other senior officers and dignitaries were present on the occasion.
