The Himachal Pradesh government has reopened super-specialty outpatient departments (OPDs) at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS) in Chamiyana, Shimla.
This decision follows the High Court's nod to shift services from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) to AIMSS. The aim is to ease IGMC's burden and improve specialized care.
OPDs for neurology, endocrinology, urology, gastroenterology, nephrology, and plastic surgery will now function at AIMSS. The shift comes after the government enhanced infrastructure, including a new approach road.
Earlier, the High Court halted AIMSS operations due to poor connectivity, lifting the stay after improvements were made.
However, patient inconvenience persists.
Basic OPDs remain at IGMC, forcing patients to shuttle between the two facilities.
While the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) promises shuttle services, patients and their families remain skeptical.
Additional facilities like canteens and medical shops have been set up at AIMSS.
The High Court also instructed the government to deploy sufficient medical and support staff, including 35 nurses reassigned from IGMC.
The government hopes this phased reopening will reduce IGMC's load, but the execution of this plan will be closely watched.
