Welcom to First Plastic Waste Park in Chopal. BDO Vineet Thakur Honored for Pioneering Initiative that has potential to turn it into a People’s Movement.
Chopal— Setting a new standard for rural waste management, Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh honored Block Development Officer (BDO) Vineet Thakur for his exemplary work as Chopal inaugurated its first Plastic Waste Park.
Even if the villagers are involved in its waste collection once in a month, they can create such plastic parks back in villagers as well.
Sponsored by the Panchayat Council, this park has become a landmark step in tackling plastic waste, aiming to keep rural streams, hill drains, and rivers free from plastic clogging.
The initiative spanned five weeks launched in all gram panchayats in the Chopal subdivision involving women SHGs . They collected 6 tonnes of plastic waste that now has been converted into the park.
The Plastic Waste Park has turned Chopal into a model for Himachal’s hill regions, sparking conversations about community-led waste management.
Minister Anirudh Singh remarked, "Our goal is for every panchayat to establish such parks, inspiring clean and green habits in even the remotest areas."
BDO Vineet Thakur, the driving force behind the initiative, envisions this park as a catalyst, inspiring other BDOs and SDMs to make this a widespread movement.
“By recycling plastic and engaging the Self-help Groups in gram panchayats we’re not only cleaning our surroundings but also creating awareness on protecting our environment,” Thakur shared.
The enthusiasm from locals has been overwhelming— not only SHGs even children and elders alike are stepping up to keep their villages clean.
This isn’t just a park but the start of a grassroots revolution for a cleaner, greener Himachal.
