IIT Mandi’s International Conference Highlights New Trends in Composite Materials.  

MANDI: IIT Mandi wrapped up  its International Conference on Composites today,  showcasing the latest trends in using advanced materials for various industries.

Organized by Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Dr. Sunny Zafar, and Dr. Subhomoy Sen, the event drew over 150 participants, including researchers, teachers, and students.

Held on 20th and 21st June, the conference featured notable speakers. Prof. B.K. Mishra from IIT Roorkee highlighted, “Composites are crucial for creating a sustainable future.

Their versatility is unmatched.” Prof. Sanjay M R from Thailand explained, “Natural fibers can revolutionize how we build things, making them stronger and more eco-friendly.”

Dr. Debdatta Ratna from DRDO shared insights on advanced polymers, saying, “Polymers are evolving rapidly, opening new doors for innovation.”

Out of 275 submitted papers, 150 were selected, showcasing top-quality research. “This conference is a prime platform for sharing knowledge and building networks,” said Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Director of IIT Mandi.

He emphasized, “We’re witnessing breakthroughs that can solve real-world problems, from making cars lighter to creating better medical devices.”

The event included 8 special talks and 150 presentations, both in-person and online, covering topics like new ways to make and use composite materials.

Dr. Himanshu Pathak remarked, “It was very satisfying to see so many new ideas and practical solutions being discussed.” He added, “Participants had the chance to learn from global experts on cutting-edge topics in composites.”

Dr. Amit Gupta from DRDO noted, “The new methods in composite manufacturing we discussed here could drastically reduce costs and improve efficiency in defense applications.”

Prof. Indra Vir Singh from IIT Roorkee commented, “The focus on health monitoring of composites is critical; it helps us predict and prevent failures in structures.”

Supported by IIT Mandi, DRDO, and SERB, the conference provided a platform for sharing the latest research and sparked ideas for future innovations in fields like aerospace, automotive, and medical technology.

“This gathering has set the stage for collaborations that will drive the next generation of composite materials,” said Dr. Rakesh Bharadwaj from DRDO.
