IIT Mandi's Project Demonstration Open House Inspires Young Innovators...

Mandi:  Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi recently hosted a Project Demonstration Open House, showcasing 53 projects developed by second-year B.Tech students as part of the Design Practicum course.

The event aimed to foster entrepreneurship and provide a platform for students to exhibit their prototypes and models.

The Design Practicum course at IIT Mandi is geared towards nurturing entrepreneurship by providing students with hands-on experience in solving real-world problems.

This year, students tackled a variety of problem statements across themes such as Ease of Doing, Future Tech, Healthcare, Sustainability, and more.

The projects, developed under the guidance of faculty mentors, were collaboratively designed by teams comprising students from various engineering disciplines.

Each group received funding of Rs. 30,000 to manufacture their prototypes, with expert guidance provided by faculty mentors.

The Open House garnered attention from key officials, including Air Force Officers, Industrial Experts, Medical practitioners, and experts from startup incubators and funding agencies.

The top three projects were awarded a grant of Rs. 2.5 lakh each from IIT Mandi Catalyst to further develop their projects and explore entrepreneurship opportunities.

Among the awarded projects were innovations like the Deep Learning-Based 3D Camera, Aircraft Laser Harmonization, and Ground Inhibition Rig for Aircraft.

These projects showcased innovative solutions addressing diverse challenges with practical applications in fields like reverse engineering, aircraft calibration, and engine maintenance.

Dr. Atul Dhar, Chairperson of the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at IIT Mandi, emphasized the institute's commitment to fostering future entrepreneurs.

He highlighted the significance of the Design Practicum in cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset among students, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020.

Aligned with the E3 Culture (Engineering and Economics leading to Entrepreneurship), IIT Mandi's curriculum is strategically designed to empower students to graduate as entrepreneurs. Initiatives like the Design Practicum, Young Innovator Fellowship, and Major Technical Project aim to provide students with the resources and support needed to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors.

Through such initiatives, IIT Mandi continues to cultivate a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, equipping students with the skills and mindset to make meaningful contributions to society.
