Kullu: United Nations, Vienna in Austria has conferred “ zero project award for “therapy on wheels van” on Samphia Foundation of Kullu district, which launched this van for treatment of differently-abled children in Himachal Pradesh.
“It is India’s first such therapy service being given to the differently-abled children in India”, said the foundation. UN gives zero project awards for innovative practices and policies in different fields.
According to spokesperson of the Foundation Dr Gaurav Bhardwaj, out of 76 projects from 30 countries of the world were selected for the Zero Project Award, which are doing exemplary and innovative work in the field of disability. It is a great achievement for Samphia Foundation to be one of them, he said.
Samphia Foundation is providing therapy facilities to differently-abled children in Kullu district, Akhara Bazar in their center” Aash Bal Vikas Kendra”.
“Therapy on Wheels” is an initiative of Samphia Foundation under which the differently abled children, who cannot make to the centre, get the therapy services at their door steps, Dr Bhardwaj said.
Therapy on Wheels project has become the center of attraction for its technical facilities because it is the first such project in India in which therapy services are provided to the disabled people inside a vehicle nearer their homes. The children usually get facilities in a center, he added.
Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur, Governor of State Rajendra Arlekar and Education Language Minister Govind Singh Thakur have also appreciated the services that the Therapy on Wheels are doing to the differently-abled children in the Kullu district.
He said the Therapy on Wheels is funded by IREDA (Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, New Delhi). It includes all therapeutic equipment needed for Physiotherapy, Speech &Occupational Therapy, he said.
