Chandigarh, 23 October 2024: "MSMEs symbolize the true spirit of enterprise that powers India's economy," said Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during a workshop on MSMEs and export growth in Chandigarh.
He emphasized that MSMEs have "evolved into strong powerhouses over the years."
Mann also highlighted the advantages of MSMEs, stating, "They require low capital, generate high employment, and have the potential to promote sustainable growth."
He added, "Punjab has always led the way, from our role in the freedom struggle to making the country self-reliant in food production and defending our borders."
Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, acknowledged the challenges faced by MSMEs. "Funding is a major issue for many MSMEs looking to expand and innovate," he said.
Bery also pointed to "a persistent shortage of skilled labor," particularly in sectors like textiles and hand tools, and noted that "high transportation costs" make it difficult for MSMEs to compete globally.
Ramesh Chand, Member of NITI Aayog, praised Punjab’s MSMEs, calling them "the cornerstone of the state’s economy" and a testament to its "resilience and entrepreneurial spirit."
He added, "Harnessing the full potential of MSMEs can position Punjab as a leading export hub."
Sanjeet Singh, Senior Advisor at NITI Aayog, emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between industry and government.
"Our government is committed to supporting MSMEs with access to finance, skill development, and favorable policies," he said.
A booklet titled MSMEs as a Driver of Export Growth: Punjab* was also launched here, outlining strategies for helping MSMEs overcome challenges and expand globally.
