LEH: The school children from the eco-sensitive Choglamsar in Leh in the Ladakh union territory got tips here on “right to clean environment and social responsibility” from the field botanist Dr Vineet Jishtu from Himalayan Forest Research Institute, Shimla under Prakriti Programme initiative.
As many as 75 students actively participated in an interactive session conducted at the Kendriya Vidyalaya at Choglamsar, Leh on 21st July, 2022.
In fact this programme was part of the two MoUs signed for a period of 10 years under the Prakriti programme. It aims to promote awareness about forests and environment, stimulating interest among students of KVS and NVS in maintaining a balanced environment.
The programme was coordinated by HFRI’s Field Research Station, Leh (Ladakh UT), under the directions of Dr. Vaneet Jishtu, visiting Scientist from the HFRI, Shimla.
Dr. Jishtu made a pictorial presentation on the subject “Right to Clean Environment & Social Responsibility, apprising them about their right to clean environment.
Dr Jishtu also stressed upon the young lot to be socially more responsible and spread and practice skills they learnt and propagate it among villagers.
The principal of the school Phuntsog Wangial appreciated the ‘Prakriti’ initiative and was grateful to the team from the Himalayan Forest Research Institute, for organizing the programme.
As a matter of fact, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun has signed two MoUs with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) to launch ‘Prakriti’ programme.
Dr Jishtu said more interactive sessions will be conducted for school children in Ladakh to keep the Prakriti initiative going.
