SHIMLA: Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti & Paryavaran Munch Shimla will honour Sangeet Shiromani Dr. Krishna Lal Sehgal with "Lifetime Achievement Award" for his outstanding contribution in the field of Himachali Folk Music.
This honor will be conferred on him in a grand folk music event organized in Shimla soon. This program of Himachali folk music will be specially dedicated to Dr. Krishan Lal Sehgal, who is 73 years old.
People will listen to his Pahari songs in the presence of other folk artists will also be there, said President of Himalaya Manch and noted litterateur SR Harnot.
Harnot said Dr. Krishan Lal Sehgal has devoted his whole life to Himachali folk singing & music and is still active in the field.
So far, he has sung more than hundred of his own composition through Akashvani, Doordarshan and many other mediums.
Many audio and video cassettes of his songs have also come out. Recently, his book titled 'Geet Meri Mati Re' has also been published in which the folk songs of Sirmaur district are written in Swarlipi.
Sehgal has also been honored with district and state level honors by many music & other organizations.
Dr. Krishan Lal Sehgal is a Ph.D. in vocals. He has obtained the degrees of Sangeet Visharad in Vocal and Instrumentation from Prachin Kala Kendet Chandigarh and Sangeet Praveen in Vocal Music from Allahabad.
He is one of the top performers of All India Radio Shimla and Doordarshan. He retired as Associate Professor (Vocals) from Himachal College Cadre in the year 2008.
Previously the senior writers who have been honored with Lifetime Achievement Award by Himalaya Sahitya Manch so far include Srinivas Shrikant, Dr. Mouluram Thakur, Saroj Vashisht, Satyen Sharma, Ramdayal Neeraj, Sundar Lohia, Ramesh Chandra Sharma and Om Prakash Handa. This is the first honor being given in Pahari folk Song.
