SHIMLA: While Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the historic, Veer Bal Divas as a tribute to the martyrdom day of Sahibzadas- Zorawar Singh, 7, Fateh Singh, 9, on December 26.
But Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar, the highest seat of Sikhs and SGPC Amritsar have objected to the nomenclature, Veer Bal Divas.
DSGPC has supported and participated in the first Veer Bal Divas in Delhi today that has given a political twist to the row as Akalis are not having cordial relation with its old partner BJP.
They instead have proposed, ‘Sahibzada Shahdat Divas’ as a befitting tributes to the supreme martyrdom and extraordinary sacrifice made by Sahibzadas to protect and promote the Sikhism in the 18th century.
Sahibzadas followed advice of Mata Gujri ji and attained martyrdom on December 26 when the tyrannical Mughal king Aurangzeb bricked them in the wall alive till their death.
But Akal Takht and SGPC have cited five reasons to oppose the nomenclature, Veer Bal Divas, which was first announced by Prime Minister from the rampart of the Red Fort.
SGPC Chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said they appealed to the Sikh community to be aware of the government’s conspiracy to undermine Sikh history”.
He said they had constituted the committee of Sikh scholars to propose the nomenclature for remembering Sahibzadas.
They proposed, ‘Sahibzadas Shahadat Day’. We recommended this to the Centre, but it did not accept it and instead it has come out with a nomenclature which does not do justice to the extraordinary martyrdom of Sahibzadas.
On the other hand Prime Minister in his address to the massive gathering in Delhi, said Sahibzadas epitomised courage, valour and sacrifice.
They also remember courage and sacrifice of Mata Gujri ji Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji.
Narendra Modi said Sikh Guru Parampara is not only a tradition of Astha and spirituality but it is a mainspring of Parampara of one India and Shreshth India.
