SHIMLA/ROHRU: In a much-awaited relief several regions in Himachal Pradesh, including higher Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, and Chopal and Kullu Manali received their first snowfall and rains of the new year, putting an end to a prolonged four-month long drought.
The snow has come as a source of relief for apple farmers and tourism stakeholders who have been eagerly awaiting the replenishment of water resources.
In a proactive measure to enhance road safety and mitigate winter hazards, a targeted application of calcium chloride spray has been initiated on the Kufri to Fagu portion of the road.
The move comes as part of the state's efforts to address icy road conditions during winter, ensuring smoother and safer travel for commuters. Calcium chloride is commonly used for de-icing and preventing the formation of ice on road surfaces.
Local authorities have undertaken this measure to minimize the impact of winter weather on the crucial Kufri-Fagu road stretch, recognizing the importance of safe transportation for residents and visitors alike.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and adhere to traffic guidelines while the calcium chloride application is underway. The initiative reflects the government's commitment to proactive measures for the well-being and safety of the community during challenging winter conditions.
Shilgrahn Shantha and Khirki recited 6 inch of snow and it has been snowing as per reports till 10 am, said Deepak Banchaik, an apple farmer from Shantha.
The traffic on Shimla Kufri Narkanda national highway and Deha-Khirki Chopal and Padshal Kharapather Jubbal has come to standstill since morning hours on January 31.
The city received rain that ended dust pollution and parched look of hill scape.
The higher reaches, including Chanshal, Choordhar, Moral Danda, Hatu Peak, and Shikari Devi, witnessed significant snowfall, creating picturesque landscapes and adding to the region's winter charm.
