Shimla- Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri the floods have inflicted damages worth Rs 350 crore to irrigation, sewerage, and drinking water schemes across the state. Out of 3737 schemes damaged by the flash floods, 2181 are restored, he said.
He chaired a crucial virtual review meeting to assess the current drinking water situation in Himachal Pradesh.
Agnihotri stressed the urgency of restoring all drinking water schemes promptly and ensuring the smooth functioning of water supply.
He stated that a lack of funds should not hinder the revival of these schemes and should seek assistance from the Disaster Management Authority.
Agnihotri instructed the officials to make alternative arrangements for areas where the drinking water schemes have suffered significant damage and cannot be restored in the immediate future.
Moreover, recognizing the potential health risks associated with water-borne diseases, Deputy Chief Minister Agnihotri emphasized the urgent repair of 59 damaged sewerage schemes.
Secretary Jal Shakti Amitabh Awasthi said a total of 3737 schemes had suffered partial or complete damage throughout the state. 2181 schemes have already been restored.
He said regular water sampling and appropriate chlorination measures should be implemented, with Chief Engineers taking personal responsibility for monitoring these aspects.
Jal Shakti Chief Engineer Dharmendra Gill reassured the Deputy Chief Minister that the department would not display any laxity in the crucial task of restoring the drinking water supply.
He said the advisories to field officers and employees have been issued over the restoration process.
