It was Sardar Singh was an official Congress candidate for Mayor post but party rebel  Usha Sharma also contest the election and managed to win defeating SIngh and Mira Anand who won ad the Deputy Mayor post.

Dr. Rajiv Bindal, the Pradesh Adhyaksh of BJP, displayed adept political tactics leading to the victory of Mira Anand in the Deputy Mayor position, securing 12 out of 17 votes in the municipal council.

Despite Congress allocating voting powers to its legislators, the party failed to sway the results in its favor, revealing a clear shift in political dynamics.

The election date was initially set for December 4, but a decisive move on December 5 led to a strategic decision to conduct the polls on December 7.

This decision, driven by the wedding of a BJP councillor's granddaughter, seemed to have influenced Congress's belief that the BJP councillor might not be able to cast his vote.

Vivek Sharma, the BJP spokesperson claimed  that even with two ministers from Congress participating in the election, along with a local minister, their strategy failed to resonate with the voters.

Dr. Rajiv Bindal hailed the win as historic, emphasizing that the instance where a Congress councillor voluntarily voted for the BJP signifies the trust placed by Congress members in the BJP's policies.
