SHIMLA: All India Congress Committee has declared its candidates on 68 seats for the state assembly elections to be held on November 12 in a single Phase. Congress has fielded former deputy Mayor Harish Janartha, a loyalist of former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh from Shimla urban for the second time.
Central Election committee of Congress released its last list five candidates after its had released its list of 17 candidates today after a massive marathon meeting. Congress declared its candidates soon after BJP and AAP released their lists on all 68 constituencies.
Janartha is considered as the best bet for the Congress from Shimla urban as BJP has shifted Suresh Bhardwaj from Shimla to Kasumpti and has instead tried its gamble on Sanjay Sood, his rival and new face.
Shimla urban will witness a keen battle among Janartha, CPIM Tikender Singh Panwar, former deputy mayor, Sanjay Sood and Chaman Rakesh Azta of AAP, a new face. Both Janartha and Azta hail from Upper Shimla.
Congress also released its list of five candidates fielding old war horse Jagat Negi from Kinnaur, Yadvinder Goma from Jaisinghpur, Kirnesh Jung from Paonta Sahib and changed its candidate Harichand Sharma from Manali and fielded Bhuvneshwar Gaur, son of late Rajkishan Gaur, who had been a minister.
The major task that Congress has is that the party has yet to galvinise its workers and estranged leaders of the rival camps who were denied the tickets.
