HP High Court in Full Court Address on Jan 13, 2023

 SHIMLA: High Court of Himachal Pradesh hold full court address here today to bid farewell to the Chief Justice, Amjad Ahtesham Sayed, who will demit office on 20.01.2023.

Born on 21st January, 1961, Justice, Amjad Ahtesham Sayed has many achievements to his kitty before he became the Chief Justice. He obtained Bachelor in Law Degree from Bombay University in 1984.

He was on the Panel of Central Government. He was also an Assistant Government Pleader, Original Side.

He has appeared in Public Interest Litigation matters relating to mangroves, garbage dumping, free/concessional medical treatment for poor in charitable hospitals, bio medical waste, malnutrition, amongst others on behalf of Union of India/State Government.

He was on the panel of several Public Undertakings and has also appeared in Arbitrations on their behalf. He practiced for 23 years as an Advocate.

Justice Amjad Ahtesham Sayed, was elevated as Judge High Court of Bomby, in April, 2007. He was appointed  as  27th Chief Justice of High Court of Himachal Pradesh on 23rd June, 2022.

The Registrar General Sh. Arvind Molhotra, conducted the proceedings.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Amjad Ahtesham Sayed thanked his companion judges for extending him a helping hand, be it on judicial or administrative side.

He thanked his family members, especially his wife Mrs. Shabnam, who stood by his side as a pillar of support and a go-to person.

The Chief Justice thanked Bar Members for all their support, love and affection. He also thanked all the Registrars, personal staff and other officers and staff of High Court Registry for their sincerity and devotion to duty.

The Chief Justice said that the Judiciary is where it is today, thanks to the collective efforts and achievements of Judges.

Judicial Officers in the District Judiciary, Advocates and officers and staff of all courts throughout the country.

He expressed his hope that the present tension between the Judiciary and the Government would be a thing of the past soon.

He said that only independent and strong judiciary, which is a watchdog of the Constitution and is bestowed powers to uphold the Constitution, can maintain the robust democracy in our country.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Sabina said that positive outlook and friendly attitude of the Chief Justice have always inspired companion judges.

It was a wonderful opportunity to work with him and he does not lose his cool at any point of time and always remains in working mode.

She further said that the Chief Justice took keen interest in each and every activity of the State Legal Services Authority.

Under his able guidance, online Lok Adalat for settlement of Motor Vehicle Challan cases at pre-litigation stage was organized on 27th November 2022, which was a great success.

She further said that positive approach of the Chief Justice, in the every walk of life and friendly attitude will always be remembered.  

Justice Sabina wished him a very peaceful, contended and happy life ahead.

Sh. Anup Rattan, Advocate General, Sh Ajay Kumar Sharma, Chairman, Bar Council of H.P., Sh. Ankush Dass Sood, President H.P. High Court Bar Association, and Shri Balram Sharma, Deputy Solicitor General of India, also spoke on the occasion and praised the Chief Justice for his contribution to the administration of justice.

Justice Sabina, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua, Justice Satyen Vaidya, Justice Sushil Kukreja and Justice Virender Singh, were also present on the occasion.

Among other prominent persons present on the occasion were Justice P. S. Rana, Chairman, H.P. Human Rights Commission, Dr. Nishtha Jaswa, Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Shimla, Senior Advocates and other Members of Bar.

The Registrar General and other Registrars, Central Project Coordinator, Member Secretary, H.P. State Legal Services Authority, Director, H.P. Judicial Academy and officers and officials of the High Court Registry were present on the occasion.
