HPNLU Hosts “Samanvay 2.0” International Mediation Competition, Attracts Top Law Schools from India and Abroad
Shimla, 26 October 2024: Himachal Pradesh National Law University’s (HPNLU) Centre for Alternate Dispute Resolution and Professional Skills (CADR&PS) wrapped up its “Samanvay 2.0” International Mediation Competition, drawing participants from some of the most prestigious law schools in India and abroad.
Aiming to cultivate a culture of mediation in line with the Mediation Act, 2023, the event saw 33 teams, including international participants from Colombo and Singapore, compete for top honors.
The three-day event kicked off with a welcome from HPNLU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, who underscored the importance of "Samanvay" (harmony) in mediation and the broader legal community.
She commended the CADR&PS team for scaling the competition to an international level, showcasing HPNLU’s commitment to embedding a strong mediation culture.
Keynote addresses added to the event’s gravitas. Hon’ble Justice C. B. Barowalia, Lokayukta of Himachal Pradesh, served as Chief Guest, underscoring a mediator’s role in fostering win-win solutions.
Mr. Mohammad Ussama, a distinguished mediator from Egypt, provided insights into the power of empathy and active listening for impactful mediation.
Highlights and Awards:
The Best Negotiating Pair award went to West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences.
Government Law College, Mumbai, bagged the Best Mediator title.
Adding rigor to the competition was a stellar panel of assessors, including senior professionals from SAM, CAMP, Hammurabi & Solomon Partners, and PACT, who evaluated the participants’ skills.
Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar, HPNLU, extended heartfelt thanks to all guests and contributors for their invaluable roles in making the event a success.
HPNLU’s reputation in mediation has grown through such initiatives, and the university's students continue to achieve excellence in ADR across national and international platforms.
