SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu proudly announced that his government has created 31,000 government jobs in just 20 months.

Yet, one key detail is conspicuously missing — how many of these positions have actually been filled?

While the figure sounds impressive, the lack of transparency on actual hirings leaves youth and job seekers across the state questioning the true impact.

The CM remains tight-lipped on the number of candidates who have secured these government jobs, raising doubts about whether the promise matches the reality.

On the other hand, the government's efforts to create overseas employment opportunities seem to be gaining traction.

The first batch of five Himachali youth—Rajat Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Jaspreet Singh, Abhinav Sharma from Una, and Dinesh from Hamirpur—was recently sent to Saudi Arabia.

This is part of a broader initiative following the state’s MoU with Dubai-based EFS Facilities Services Group, which plans to hire up to 1,000 candidates from Himachal Pradesh annually.

However, for many aspiring for local jobs, the wait continues. With such big claims and little clarity, job-seeking youth are left asking: Where are these 31,000 jobs, and how many have actually found employment?

The government has also pushed self-employment schemes like the Rajiv Gandhi Start-up Scheme to encourage entrepreneurship, but skepticism remains high.

Promises of jobs are easy to make, but their delivery — or lack thereof — speaks louder than words.
