SHIMLA: CPI(M) Kasumpti unit has demanded extension of deadline for filing objections related to re-demarcation of wards of Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC).
In a media statement here today CPIM secretary Satyavan Pundir said the time limit set by the government to file objections is not sufficient. Meanwhile, there were also holidays on second Saturday , Sunday and Guru Ravidas Jayanti, he pointed out.
Pundir said there is no idea about the boundaries of the ward in the list issued by the district administration for perusal, so it is becoming difficult to register an objection. Till the time the boundaries of the wards are not properly known and its maps are not prepared, no rational objection can be raised in this, he claimed.
He has also urged the State Election Commission through the media to extend its deadline for filing objections and CPIM has sought to meet the state election commissioner on Thursday.
Pundir said at present there are a lot of discrepancies regarding voters in the wards. There are many booths which are part of both Shimla rural and municipal corporations. There are many voters in this who live outside the municipal corporation in the panchayat area, their vote is also in the list of the municipal corporation, he said.
Giving the example of Ganoti booth of Malyana ward, he said that in the last elections also, the voters of this panchayat area had cast their votes in the municipal corporation. Due to such discrepancies, it is not possible to get fair results. Administration and Election Commission should take cognizance of this and ECI should do physical verification of voter lists, CPIM demands.
