After a series of marathon meetings, Assam and Meghalaya have converged on six areas of border dispute to find an amicable solution to the protracted border problem.
According to the sources, the representatives of various groups and officials hold harmonious talks that led to taking up six areas -Rata Chera, Tarabari, Boklapara, Khanapara, Pillingkata, Hahim, Gizang- for finding amicable solutions. These six areas of difference were taken up for final settlement in the meeting held in Guwahati on January 19.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. HImanta Biswa Sarma said “a road map for amicable settlement has been prepared based on the recommendations of the three regional committees which have representative from both the states. Both states have reached this stage after several rounds of CM level talks on the matter, he added.
The meeting was attended by Dr Ranoj Pegu from Assam, Rebha Hasong autonomous council's Tankeswar Ribha, Chief secretary, Jishnu Baruah, Principle secretary ,Home and Border, Neeraj Verma, AASU chief advisor Dr Samujjal Bhatta and leaders of various student organizations.
Sarma told media that the solution to border dispute with Meghalaya is being worked out as per the recommendation of this panel.
Chief Minister also interacted with the representatives of all political parties on six areas of the difference over the border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya in Guwahati today. He apprised them on the progress of steps taken for settlement of border dispute the two states.
Expressing his optimism Chief Minister said the good news is that Assam-Meghalaya border row has started bearing fruits as six out of twelve areas of difference have been identified for resolution in the first phase.
