Mandi: The Himachal Pradesh Police are tightening their grip on habitual drug offenders as part of their relentless war against narcotics.

In the latest crackdown, Mandi Police have detained a notorious drug trafficker, Mohammad Ishaq, under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT ND&PS) Act.

With this, the total number of offenders detained under the Act has now reached thirteen.

On March 30, 2025, Mandi Police detained Mohammad Ishaq, a resident of Village Dugrain, Kaned.

A known repeat offender, Ishaq has been actively trafficking Chitta (heroin) across several locations, including Sunder Nagar, Dhanotu, Kaned, and Nerchowk in Mandi District, as well as parts of Bilaspur District.

His criminal track record includes one ND&PS case in Bilaspur and three in Mandi, making him a key target in the police’s anti-narcotics operation.

Following an in-depth proposal submitted by SP Mandi, the Competent Authority has ordered Ishaq’s detention for three months. However, the crackdown does not stop here.

Financial investigations under the PIT ND&PS Act are underway to trace and freeze properties acquired through illicit drug trade.

If proven, these assets will be forfeited, delivering a significant blow to the financial backbone of the narcotics network.

This action comes on the heels of the detention of eight habitual drug offenders in the last fortnight.

Himachal Pradesh Police have left no stone unturned in their pursuit of dismantling the drug supply chain, ensuring that habitual offenders are not only arrested but also stripped of their illegal wealth.

The surge in detentions highlights the administration’s renewed focus on eradicating the drug menace that has gripped the state.

With the number of offenders detained under the PIT ND&PS Act rising steadily, law enforcement agencies are sending a strong message—there will be no escape for those who peddle poison in society.

As authorities continue tightening the noose, the hope remains that such decisive action will deter others from engaging in the illicit trade and protect Himachal’s youth from the devastating grip of drugs.
