UNESCO has accorded the century-old tradition of Durga Puja in Kolkata an inscription of intelligible heritage list of humanity that has sent all Bengalese in particular and every Puja devotees in an orgy of joy and pride in India and across the world. Durga Puja of Kolkata is now a heritage of Humanity in the world.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said it is a proud moment from the Bengal, to every Bengali across the world. Durga puja is much more than a festival it is an emotion that unites everyone. And now Durga puja has been added to the representative list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity. We are all beaming with joy, she said.
Reacting to the UNESCO inscription Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Durga Puja highlights the best of our traditions and ethos. Kolkata’s Durga Puja is an experience that everyone must have.
