Residents and CPIM leaders today demand Rs 10 lakh compensation for for the family of a six years old girl who was killed by the leopard in Down Dale locality in the capital city on Diwali . The leopard should be declared as maneater as it was the second incident of killing by the leopard in the recent months.

It was the second killing of the girl child. Earlier, a girl was lifted by the leopard from Kanlong area and was killed few months ago, said the residents.
CPIM leader and former Shimla Mayor Sanjay Chauhan who along with several members of the party met with the family members to express their solidarity with the family of the victim. The government should pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the parents who are poor and leopard should be killed immediately as it is still on the prowl in the area terrorizing the residents, said Chauhan .
CPM demands that the state government should take measures to prevent man-animal conflict in the populated areas. The wild life teams were still making trips to the area but without doing something concrete, Chauhan claimed.
