The farmers have pinned their hopes on Prof. Vijay Pal Sharma, Chairperson of Agricultural Costs and Prices Commission (CACP) for getting the support price for its products- food grains, fruits and vegetable produced in Himachal Pradesh.
The farmers have hailing Prof Sharma’s appointment as Chairperson, CACP, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India as he comes from Una.
President of the Kisan Sabha Dr Kuldip Singh Tanwar has urged the state government to send a concrete proposal to the CACP on the major products of the state and push it to bring all its produce under purview of MSP. By doing so Himachal government will fulfil Prime Minister’s promise for giving support price for its products he had made in 2014.
The farmers of Himachal and other mountain states will get the maximum support price for its products in due course of time.
Dr Kuldip Singh Tanwar said Prof Vijay Pal Sharma is a son of the soil and it is a matter of pride for Himachal. “We hope that farmers’ demands for bringing food grains, fruits, vegetables and other products in Himachal Pradesh under the purview of Minimum Support Price will be fulfilled, he said.
It is noteworthy that the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, plays an important role in fixing the cost price in the country's agriculture and farming and fixing the minimum support price and remunerative price for the products of the farmers.
Kisan Sabha hopes that CACP will take some concrete steps and food grains, fruits, vegetables and other products produced in Himachal will get its due, Dr Tanwar said.
As per recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission the Kisan Sabha would try pursue with CACP to fix the minimum support price on the basis of C2+50%. The fruits, vegetables and milk would be brought under the purview of CACP so that 10 farmers of the state and crores of others in the country, get the minimum support price, Kisan sabha said.
Himachal Pradesh produces cereals about 15 lakh metric tonnes, fruits about 10 lakh metric tonnes and vegetables about 17 lakh metric tonnes. Apart from this, the state farmers also produce milk, flowers, honey, the farmers said.
