Shimla: Gyan ans Vigyan Samiti and  the Public Health Campaign initiated a health dialogue series on World Health Day.

Dr. P.C. Negi, former head of cardiology department IGMC emphasized the need to strengthen public health institutions.

He stressed the importance of starting community health centers, advocating that prevention is better than cure and improving lifestyle and dietary habits are crucial for maintaining good health.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Negi highlighted that improper lifestyle and dietary habits are major contributors to most illnesses.

He emphasized the need to bolster public health services and increase investment in healthcare facilities for the benefit of the general public.

The inauguration of the "Community Health Center" was also marked on this occasion, promising regular check-ups and consultations every first Sunday of the month. Dr. B.D. Sharma, retired Joint Director of Health Services, commended this voluntary initiative.

Furthermore, Dr. Amit Sachdeva from the Community Medicine Department at IGMC Shimla urged people to prioritize health, echoing the World Health Organization's message, "Our Health, Our Right," emphasizing the growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases and the importance of awareness.

The committee honored Prof. R. Gupta, Dr. B.D. Sharma, and Dr. P.C. Negi by presenting them with Himachali caps in recognition of their contributions.

Satyawan Pundir, Secretary of the committee and State Coordinator of the Rural Health Campaign, expressed gratitude for the support of health experts in running the community health centers.

He announced plans for future sessions focusing on various aspects of health, including stress management, mental health, and domestic violence.

The event saw participation from approximately 80 experts, including Dr. Ravi Sharma from IGMC's Psychiatry Department, Dr. Deepa Rathore, Clinical Psychologist from DDUI Shimla, and specialists from various medical fields.

Nearly 60 attendees underwent free health checks for blood sugar, blood pressure, ECG, and oxygen levels, promising continued support for the community's well-being.

Active members of the committee, including Dr. Reena Singh, Jiyanand Sharma, Suresh Pundir, Kapil Sharma, Navin Sharma, Satendra Chauhan, Vinay Pundir, Sevanihit G.C. Sharma, Heeranand Shandil, Sumitra Chandel, and Vidya Chauhan, participated in the event.
