Shimla: The National Medical Register (NMR), launched by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,
is a major step forward in digitizing India's healthcare system under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said the National Medical Register (NMR) Portal of National Medical Commission (NMC), will facilitate the registration of all eligible MBBS doctors in India.
NMR will be a dynamic database for all allopathic (MBBS) registered doctors in India.
The uniqueness of the NMR is that it is linked with Aadhaar ID of the doctors that ensures the individual’s authenticity, Nadda said.
This step will enhance transparency, streamline the registration process, and ensure a verified database of qualified MBBS doctors across India for better healthcare delivery.
This comprehensive database will provide accurate and holistic data on all registered doctors, enhancing transparency and improving healthcare delivery across the country. There are over 13 lakh doctors in India.
The United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) has hailed the NMR as a crucial initiative for strengthening the healthcare system at both state and national levels.
The NMR is designed to integrate and maintain the records of all registered medical practitioners, facilitating easier access to verified information.
This initiative is expected to streamline the healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that qualified doctors are available where they are needed the most.
Additionally, it supports the broader goals of the Digital India mission by improving data accuracy, reducing fraud, and enhancing the overall quality of care provided to patients.
Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, the NMR plays a pivotal role in promoting accountability and efficiency in the healthcare sector.
With the integration of digital tools, the registry is expected to bring about significant improvements in the accessibility and reliability of medical services across India.
