Shimla: India is set to import a 10 GW of power from Nepal, heralding a new era of energy cooperation between the two nations. The Nepal government has honored Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, CMD of SJVN (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited), for his outstanding contributions to the development of the energy sector in Nepal.
Prime Minister of Nepal, Sh. Pushpa Kamal Dhahal ‘Prachanda, presented a Token of Appreciation to Sh. Sharma during the 12th Anniversary Celebrations function of the Investment Board of Nepal (IBN).
This high-profile event witnessed the presence of numerous Cabinet Ministers of the Government of Nepal, Ambassadors from various countries, and foreign direct investment (FDI) investors.
Under leadership of Nand Lal Sharma, Nepal has developed hydro power sector, facilitating the swift signing of the Project Development Agreement (PDA) for the Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project (669 MW).
SJVN is currently engaged in developing three hydro projects in Nepal, totaling 2199 MW, including the 900 MW Arun-3, 669 MW Lower Arun, and 630 MW Arun-4 Hydro Electric Project.
The successful implementation of these projects will empower India to import a remarkable 10 GW of power from Nepal.
This milestone not only strengthens bilateral ties but also aligns with the India-Nepal Joint Vision on Power Sector Cooperation.
SJVN is committed to achieving a targeted portfolio of 5000 MW by 2030 in Nepal.
