Jawalaji: In this tiny town nestled in the Himalayan foothills, the Kapoor Badminton Academy stands as a beacon for aspiring shuttlers.
At its helm is an accomplished Mr. Ravinder Kapoor. A former coach for the Indian badminton team, Mr. Kapoor's legacy is etched in over four decades of dedicated service to the sport.
As I dropped in Dawala the sprawling academy dazzled me. It spans an impressive 10,000 sq. ft., boasting four Hova & Wooden courts where young players dazzled by their shuttling skills while practicing in a bursts of shots.
Under the guidance of a professional team of coaches, the academy has become a nurturing ground for upcoming badminton talents in Northern India.
The hostel facilities provided by the academy accommodate both local talents and students from other states, totaling around 80 young athletes.
The emphasis on cleanliness and hygiene in the hostel, especially in the Mess, reflects the academy's commitment to providing a conducive environment for holistic development.
Recently, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) elevated the status of the Kapoor Badminton Academy from an extension center to a recognized Khelo India Centre, acknowledging its contribution to shaping the future of badminton in the region.
Among the shining stars emerging from the Kapoor Badminton Academy are members of the Kapoor family itself. Saurav Kapoor, a former captain of the Indian team and current player for RBI, has clinched the Haryana state championship a remarkable 12 times.
