Shimla – The Sukhu government has given a free hand to the mining mafia in Himachal Pradesh, alleged BJP state president Dr. Rajeev Bindal.
He slammed the Congress government, saying illegal mining is happening openly under political protection.
The recent attack on Mandi SDM Omkant Thakur by mining operatives proves how fearless the mafia has become, he said.
The attack took place near Bindravani on Monday evening. SDM Thakur, acting on a tip-off, reached the Beas River to inspect illegal mining.
Without police protection, he tried to stop the activity but was assaulted by two intoxicated men. "This incident shows that the government has no control over law and order," Bindal stated.
Mining Mafia Unchecked Across Himachal
Bindal claimed that the mining mafia is flourishing under Congress leaders' shelter.
He said districts like Baddi-Barotiwala, Una, Mandi, and Kangra are worst affected. "Illegal miners are looting natural resources while the government remains silent," he said.
In Nurpur’s Takiya Chanor village, people are protesting against illegal mining in government land and the Chhonchh rivulet.
Bindal said that JCB machines from Punjab operate here every night, extracting sand and stones without any action from authorities. "The government is completely ignoring these crimes," he added.
Political Links to Mining Mafia?
Bindal also pointed to the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrests in a money laundering case linked to illegal mining.
"This proves that powerful people are protecting these criminals. The government’s silence is proof of its involvement," he alleged.
He demanded strict action against the attackers of SDM Mandi. He also said that leaders who shelter illegal miners should be exposed and punished.
With the BJP mounting pressure, the Sukhu government faces tough questions.
