Green Polling Booths in Himachal Pradesh: A Step Towards Sustainable Voting

SHIMLA: In a  move towards promoting environmental sustainability, Himachal Pradesh has established a total of 44 green polling booths for the upcoming elections.

This initiative is part of the state's broader efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and encourage eco-friendly practices.

Kangra district leads the way with the highest number of green polling booths, totaling 15.

Following closely is Mandi, which has set up 10 such booths. Chamba district has 8 green polling booths, while Solan has implemented 7.

Additionally, Lahaul, Kullu, Sirmour, and Kinnaur districts have each set up one green polling booth. These booths are designed to minimize waste and use sustainable materials, ensuring a more environmentally conscious voting process.

The establishment of green polling booths underscores Himachal Pradesh's commitment to environmental conservation and sets a precedent for other states to follow.

Each booth, themed differently, focuses on various aspects of environmental pollution. For instance, DeviDarh Green PS in Nachan AS showcases the impact of deforestation and the importance of reforestation.

These green booths not only serve as polling stations but also educate voters about the pressing issue of environmental pollution.

The initiative has received positive feedback, with many appreciating the blend of civic duty and environmental education.

In Mandi there are over 15 lakh voters to cast their votes to choose the MP. Congress has fielded Vikramaditya Singh while BJP candidate is Kangana Ranaut, while there is one independent  a former RSS worker opposing candidature of Kangana because of controversy that surrounded video on her taste and eating habits.

Others  could follow Mandi’s example to spread this vital message among their voters, creating a ripple effect of environmental consciousness across the region.
