Shimla, 16 October 2024 — Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena has taken charge as the new Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, starting her tenure today.
She succeeds Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, the former Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Her appointment has established the dominance of woman as vice chancellor of HPNLU for the second time in a row.
Prof. Saxena brings an impressive academic background, holding a law degree from Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, and a Ph.D. in Law from Kumaun University, Nainital.
With a wealth of experience in legal education, she has held key positions at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, where she has served as a Professor in the Department of Human Rights and the Director of the Centre of Post Graduate Legal Studies since 2013.
Her previous roles include:
- Dean, School for Legal Studies, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow (2012-2015)
- Head, Department of Human Rights, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (2006-2019)
Known for her commitment to student success and research excellence, Prof. Saxena has supervised over 140 LL.M. dissertations throughout her career.
She has made a name for herself in legal scholarship and human rights advocacy, becoming a respected figure in the academic world.
In her new role as Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Saxena is expected to bring fresh ideas and strategic leadership to HPNLU, aiming to strengthen the university's reputation for academic rigor and social responsibility.
She envisions fostering the institution’s role in legal education and community engagement, ensuring that HPNLU continues to produce competent and socially aware legal professionals.
