Shimla, January 5: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today announced the installation of a 2 MW solar power plant in the tribal region of Kaza, a step towards ensuring a reliable power supply in the area.

He stated that electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are being set up based on demand, alongside the government’s approval for 18 MW of ground-mounted and rooftop solar plants on vacant land near Electricity Board offices.
The government has also set an ambitious target to install rooftop solar systems on 50,000 houses by 2026-27. "So far, we have received 4,444 applications under this scheme," the Chief Minister said.
The state is also focusing on self-reliance through better resource utilization.
CM Sukhu said step like the reviewing power project agreements, reassessing loans taken at high-interest rates, and rationalizing electricity subsidies are being taken.
“These measures will help the Electricity Board reduce its debt burden and move towards self-reliance,” he said.
