Industry and Government Join Hands on Labour Reforms, Focus on Job Quality and Social Security. The quality of employment and jobs must go hand in hand with quality of workers welfare if lofty target of make India a five Trillion economy.
Chandigarh, 5 September 2024: In an interaction today, the Ministry of Labour & Employment, led by Secretary Sumita Dawra, connected with over 200 industry members at CII’s Northern Region Headquarters here today to discuss the way forward on employment and labour reforms.
Smt Dawra didn't give data on employment and unemployment scenario in the country. She emphasized that while job numbers are rising, the real challenge lies in improving the *quality* of employment.
“As we aim for a USD 5 trillion economy, it’s not just about creating jobs, but ensuring they’re quality jobs. We need a win-win where both industry and labour benefit,” she said.
She also highlighted the impact of the PLI and ELI schemes, aimed at boosting manufacturing and incentivizing first-time employment.
Mr Anurag Gupta, Chairman of CII Chandigarh, echoed the need for balance, stressing that both business growth and worker welfare must go hand in hand.
Meanwhile, Mr Abhishek Gupta Chairman of CII Punjab, noted that prioritizing workers’ well-being is the key to long-term sustainability.
The session also featured a deep dive into social security reforms, with discussions led by representatives from *ESIC* and *EPFO*, focusing on improving service delivery and simplifying compliance.
The event wrapped up with industry members offering suggestions for smoother implementation of employment schemes, setting the stage for more collaboration between government and industry.
With these ongoing dialogues, industry players are optimistic about the future, hoping that these reforms will create a better working environment for both businesses and workers.
