Shimla, February 23, 2025: The government will introduce FASTag-based entry tax collection at 55 toll barriers across Himachal Pradesh. The rollout will happen in phases.
In the first phase, six barriers will get the facility. These include Garamaura in Bilaspur, Parwanoo (Main) and Tipra Bypass (Parwanoo) in Solan, Govindghat in Sirmaur, Kandwal in Kangra, and Mehatpur in Una district.
A government spokesperson said entry tax barriers will be auctioned for the 2025-26 financial year. The government expects a 7.5% increase in revenue compared to 2024-25. Toll lessees must set up the FASTag system within 45 days. Failure to do so will result in lease cancellation.
Lessees must bear the cost of installation and operation, including fees for Issuer Bank, NPCI, IHMCL, and the acquiring bank. Senior officers will oversee timely implementation.
Lessees must also submit an undertaking confirming FASTag setup at their expense. They must issue receipts for to-and-fro trips within 24 hours. Overcharging beyond approved toll rates is strictly prohibited.
Himachal-registered vehicles, except heavy commercial ones, are exempt from entry tax.
The FASTag software will ensure no deductions from exempt vehicles. The spokesperson said the initiative aims to ease travel and improve tax collection.
