Shimla: Himachal witnessed a festive spirit  as festival of lights brightened up the Himachal Pradesh after battered by the deluge in July and August this year. 

The towns and cities including the capital Shimla shimmered like jewels in the burst of colourful lights set up the the residents, the outburst of crackers and lights brightened the city scape with smog blurring the horizons. 

In a heartwarming celebration, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu joined the Diwali festivities at Balika Ashram Tutikandi in Shimla, spreading joy among the children by distributing sweets, fruits, and crackers.

Sukhu highlighted the state government's commitment to the welfare of orphaned children.

He revealed that a recent law has granted 'Children of the State' status to orphaned kids, with over 4000 receiving eligibility certificates.

These certificates unlock various benefits, including care until the age of 27, educational support, financial aid for housing, clothing, festival allowances, and more.

The government is actively focusing on enrolling these children in reputable schools and ensuring their overall well-being, providing them with 3 Biswa land and Rs 2 lakh financial assistance to build their own homes.

Addressing the children, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized, "The state government is your mother and father. Face life's challenges boldly because challenges create confidence and give direction to life."

Looking ahead, Sukhu announced the government's plans to formulate a scheme for single women and deaf and dumb children.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil commended Sukhu's historic steps, including his visit to Girls Ashram Tutikandi and the introduction of the Mukhyamantri Sukhashraya Yojana.

Despite recent disasters causing significant damage in Himachal Pradesh, the state government remains committed to public welfare.

Two state-of-the-art ashrams for orphaned children in Jwalamukhi and Sundernagar are in the pipeline, with foundation stone laying ceremonies scheduled soon.

The celebration also featured a cultural program presented by the children. Among the dignitaries present were MLA Harish Janartha, Principal Advisor to Chief Minister (Media) Naresh Chauhan, Mayor Shimla Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, OSD Ritesh Kaprate, Director Women and Child Development Department Rupali Thakur, and other prominent figures.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla emphasized that the festival of lights signifies the triumph of good over evil and urged the public to celebrate in an eco-friendly manner, promoting a pollution-free Diwali.

In his message, Chief Minister Sukhu wished for the auspicious festival to enhance the spirit of joy and well-being in the lives of the people.

Joining the festive fervor, all Council of Ministers and Chief Parliamentary Secretaries extended warm wishes to the people, contributing to the joyous atmosphere during this celebration of light.
