Shimla- Himachal Pradesh government has targeted to raise green cover on 10,000 hectares of land in the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, aims to increase the state's green cover and preserve its natural heritage for future generations.
Under "Mukhya Mantri Green Cover Mission, the forest department will embark on an extensive afforestation drive across 15 Forest Divisions in the state.
Barren hillsides will be transformed into thriving ecosystems by planting eco-friendly species in targeted areas, effectively boosting the region's green cover and eradicating wild obnoxious weeds.
The specific areas for plantation have already been identified for this monsoon season.
The Kullu Forest Division will see 30 hectares of land dedicated to afforestation, while Nahan and Solan will each contribute 25 hectares.
Parvati and Kinnaur Forest Divisions will allocate 22 hectares and 20 hectares, respectively, towards this noble cause. The mission seeks to not only enhance the green cover but also contribute to the conservation of the environment in the state.
The Chief Minister has further directed the Forest Department to prepare a meticulous work plan encompassing various departmental schemes, with the aim of planting 10,000 hectares of land.
To ensure the success of the initiative, forest officials have been entrusted with responsibility of monitoring the plantations and ensuring their survival.
Himachal Pradesh, renowned for its diverse ecosystems spanning the Trans-Himalayan and Himalayan Biogeographic Zones, along with the presence of the Shivaliks, Western Himalayas, and Trans-Himalayan regions, recognizes the utmost importance of preserving its rich biodiversity.
Chief Minister Sukhu calls for the concerted efforts of all stakeholders to guarantee the initiative's success.
