PALAMPUR- Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Chief Project Director of the JICA Forestry Project Nagesh Kumar Guleria called for a coordination of all stakeholders to make the cultivation of medicinal plants a source of livelihoods for them.
He visited Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology in Palampur. He said the propagation models of medicinal plants created by the Herb Cell of the institute would aid cultivation of medicinal plants in the fields.
He and Director, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav discussed successful implementation of the project in collaboration with the JICA Forestry Project.
The Chief Project Director of JICA Forestry Project emphasized the various initiatives taken by the Herb Cell to revive and promote herbs.
This includes working closely with Village Forest Development Committees and Biodiversity Committees, guiding rural communities in cultivating medicinal plants on forest and private land.
The technical information provided by the Herb Cell aims to increase the green cover of the state and improve the livelihoods of the local population.
Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav expressed admiration for the commendable work done by the JICA Forestry Project in the field of medicinal plants. He assured full support from the scientists at the Himalayan Institute of Bio-resource Technology.
