Mandi: Tehsildar Oshin Sharma, a Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service (HAS) officer, has gained attention for her active social media presence and work in public administration.
Recently, however, she was issued a show-cause notice by the SDM of Dharampur, Joginder Patial, for negligence in duty.
The notice followed a review by DC Mandi, Apoorv Devgan, who found delays and administrative lapses in the Dharampur subdivision during an inspection.
Oshin Sharma had built a strong reputation as a capable officer in her early days as Tehsildar in Sandhole.
However, concerns arose as she became increasingly focused on social media, where she frequently shared information on women’s rights and social issues.
The notice served to her and other officials highlights discrepancies in their performance, signaling a need for greater accountability in administrative duties.
Oshin has become the target of public outrage, with netizens trolling her as a "social media-hungry" officer.
There are many who say Oshin is inspiring many by her skills.
But Critics are slamming Oshin for spending more time curating her social media image rather than serving the public.
"The government is paying her salary to work for the people, not for promoting her social media skills," said one angry citizen.
Many have even called for her resignation, suggesting that she leave her government job and focus on social media full-time.
The notice from the district administration has come as a delayed but necessary action, with many questioning why the Deputy Commissioner didn’t act sooner.
"It’s high time someone held her accountable. Oshin should be reminded that she is a public servant, not a social media celebrity.
Her salary comes from the taxpayers' pockets, and her primary duty is to serve them, not to enhance her personal brand online," said a local resident.
The incident has sparked a wider debate about government officials prioritizing their social media presence over their administrative responsibilities.
But there are no SOP for officers whether or not they should be more active on social media doing non- administrative work.
For now, Oshin Sharma finds herself at the center of criticism, and the public will be watching closely to see if she returns to doing the job she’s being paid for.
