Shimla – In a groundbreaking achievement, Smt. Geeta Kapoor, the Director (Personnel) of SJVN, has taken on the additional responsibility as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company. This historic move marks her as the first woman to lead any Hydro CPSE within the Indian power sector.
Geeta Kapoor's journey at SJVN began in 1992 when she joined as an Officer (Personnel). Over her impressive 31-year career, she has contributed significantly to Human Resources, Civil Construction, and Civil Contracts. In 2018, she made history as the first full-time female Director in SJVN.
Expressing gratitude to past CMDs for their exemplary leadership, Geeta Kapoor conveyed her best wishes to SJVNites for their future leadership roles. Her extensive experience in Human Resources has played a pivotal role in formulating policies, defining standard operating procedures, and leading wage settlements with unions.
Geeta Kapoor's leadership has not only strengthened SJVN but also secured its position on the prestigious 'Great Place To Work' list in January 2024. Additionally, she serves as the Chairperson of the CSR Foundation, a registered trust of SJVN, contributing to education, health, sanitation, infrastructural development, women and child care, sustainability, and disaster relief.
Apart from her role in SJVN, Geeta Kapoor is on the Board of Directors of SJVN Arun-III Power Development Company and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company in Nepal, SJVN Thermal Private Limited in Buxar, Bihar, and SJVN Green Energy Limited.
Recognized for her outstanding contributions to Human Resources, Geeta Kapoor received the Women Super Achiever Award by ET Now during the World HRD Congress in 2019. In 2022, she was honored with the CIDC Chairman's Commendation Trophy in Individual Capacity.

Born on April 8, 1964, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, she is an alumna of the prestigious Himachal Pradesh University Business School, Shimla, where she earned her MBA in Human Resource Management in 1986.
Her educational journey began at Loreto Convent Tara Hall, Shimla, followed by a Bachelor's in Science from St. Bede's College, Shimla, in 1984.
