Shimla, November 18: Himachal Pradesh Police has launched a 15-day special campaign starting today, aimed at tackling road safety violations.
Running till December 2, the initiative will focus on curbing overloading, unsafe transportation of goods, and illegal passenger transport in goods vehicles.
A Push for Safer Roads
This campaign is all about reducing accidents, safeguarding lives, and protecting vital road infrastructure.
“Overloading and unsafe practices are major contributors to road mishaps. "We’re committed to ensuring compliance with traffic laws,” said ASP Narvir Rathour.
Violations Under the Radar
Here’s what the police will be cracking down on:
- Overloading in commercial vehicles
- Unsafe transport of goods, such as protruding materials
- Overloading passengers
- Illegal passenger transport in goods vehicles
Penalties for Rule-Breakers
Drivers caught overloading vehicles will face a fine of ₹20,000, plus ₹2,000 for every extra ton as per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Police Action Plan
- District Police teams will carry out daily inspections across the state.
- Strict enforcement measures will be implemented, with reports sent to the Traffic, Tourist, and Railways HQ.
- Violators will face no leniency.
Citizens’ Role in Road Safety
ASP Rathour appealed to the public, saying, “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. We urge people to avoid overloading and illegal transport practices. Let’s work together to make our roads safer for all.”
