New Delhi/Shimla: India has swiftly rejected the accusations  made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau against India  regarding the killing of Khalistani separatist  Hardeep Singh Nijjer in Surrey, Canada few days ago, while speaking in the Canadian Parliament two days ago. 

Indian Diaspora Expresses Concern: Indian nationals residing in Canada, especially from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, have voiced their security concerns in light of the worsening diplomatic relations. There is growing fear and uncertainty among the Indian community in Canada.

In response to Trudeau's allegations, the Indian government suspended the processing of Canadian visas indefinitely.

This move further strained relations between the two countries.

There are reports that  Trudeau is trying to create sympathy  among the Sikh clergy as he is likely face reverses back home  in the upcoming Canadian Federal elections in 2025. 

Trudeau got support of the Jagmeet Singh NDP and Hardeep Singh Nijjar and became PM in 2021, sources said. 

Allegations and Counter-Allegations: The Canadian Prime Minister accused India of involvement in Nijjer's killing, which India vehemently denied.ī

Indian Diplomatic Presence in Canada: There is speculation about the reduction of diplomatic staff in both countries, but details remain unclear.

International Reaction: India has reached out to its allies and partners to discuss the issue, emphasizing that no specific evidence has been provided by Canada to substantiate their claims, said spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs while briefing Media today evening in New Delhi.

He said Indian citizens in Canada have been advised to exercise caution and vigilance due to growing anti-India activities and politically condoned hate crimes. The safety of Indian students and nationals is a top priority.

Ongoing Diplomatic Strain: The situation remains fluid, with ongoing discussions between the two countries. India maintains that the allegations are baseless, while Canada has yet to provide concrete evidence to support its claims.

Visa Services Disrupted: Visa services for Canadians wishing to visit India have been suspended temporarily due to security concerns, he said.

Growing Reputational Damage: Canada faces reputational damage as allegations of it being a safe haven for terrorists and extremists gain attention, he said.

As the diplomatic standoff continues, both India and Canada are yet to find common ground, and the situation remains tense.
