Plastic Bank Movement Gains Momentum in Dehradun.
DEHRADUN: Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation here is making strides with its plastic bank initiative. After involving army families, they've now expanded to the General Post Office (GPO) at Clock Tower.
The new plastic bank at the GPO will collect plastic waste not only from the post office itself but also from the homes of its officers and staff. This step aims to boost plastic recycling and reduce litter.
At the inauguration, Senior Postmaster Tikambar Singh Gusain praised the project, emphasizing the Post Office’s commitment to environmental efforts.
Dinesh Semwal of SDC Foundation shared that they’ve already set up 135 plastic banks across Dehradun. The addition at the GPO is a significant move, as it involves postal department employees in recycling.
Praveen Upreti from SDC Foundation highlighted that the initiative is now reaching into homes.
Collecting plastic waste directly from households helps prevent litter and eases the burden on Dehradun's Municipal Corporation.
The event saw active participation from GPO staff and SDC Foundation members like Abhishek Bhatt, Subhash, and Bittu, all dedicated to advancing this green campaign.
