Himachal Higher Region Under Heavy Snowfall, BRO Races to Restore Roads....Rockslide in Kinnaur.
Shimla/Manali: Lahaul-Spiti and Upper Kinnaur remain cut off as relentless snowfall and landslides continue to wreak havoc.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working round the clock to clear key highways, but the situation remains grim with roads buried under nearly four feet of snow.
The Manali-Leh Highway, a strategic lifeline for the region, has been blocked at multiple locations.
A massive avalanche at Mooling, 12 km from Keylong, briefly obstructed the Chandra River's flow, while another near the north portal of the Atal Tunnel damaged stretches of the highway.
Meanwhile, the road to Udaipur and the Keylong-Darcha stretch remain inaccessible due to heavy snow accumulation.
BRO teams, aided by snow cutters and heavy machinery, are engaged in restoring connectivity.
Efforts are focused on reopening the Atal Tunnel stretch, crucial for linking Lahaul with Manali.
However, fresh snowfall is hampering progress, with roads getting reburied just hours after clearance.
Officials confirm that work is also underway on the Tandi-Udaipur-Tindi road, a key route for locals in Lahaul.
The situation is no better in Pangi and Bharmour, where residents have been battling freezing temperatures and power outages for the past four days.
In Manali, severe cold and blackouts have left locals struggling.
Authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, warning of a high avalanche risk in multiple zones.
With no respite from the weather, BRO and local administration are pushing ahead with all available resources. But until road access is restored,
Lahaul-Spiti, Upper Kinnaur, and adjoining areas remain at nature’s mercy.
