Shimla: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu unveiled the Sanjauli-Dhalli tunnel, which will ease up traffic congestion on Shimla's circular road mainly in the Sanjauli-Dhalli stretch.
The newly constructed tunnel, valued at Rs. 47.36 crore and spanning 154.22 meters, was inaugurated with a commitment to enhancing the state's connectivity and benefitting its residents.
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted the acceleration of the tunnel's construction under the present State government, contrasting it with the slower progress during the previous BJP government.
Emphasizing the government's dedication to timely project completion, he stated that this approach aims to maximize benefits for the people of Himachal Pradesh swiftly.
The old Dhalli Tunnel, in service since 1852, had become a bottleneck due to its single-lane design surpassing its intended lifespan.
The introduction of the new tunnel is a strategic move to mitigate traffic issues, ensuring smoother transportation for both residents and tourists.
Chief Minister Sukhu expressed optimism about the positive impact on the tourism sector, a vital industry in the state.
The tunnel's strategic location on the route to popular destinations such as Kufri, Naldehra, Tattapani, Narkanda, and Chail is expected to boost economic growth in the region.
Stressing the importance of modernizing infrastructure, promoting tourism, and addressing the needs of the community, Sukhu deemed the tunnel as a viable and sustainable solution to reduce congestion on Shimla's circular road.
Project is anticipated to generate local employment opportunities and enhance social interaction in the area. Sukhu also announced plans to renovate the old tunnel.
The inauguration event saw the presence of key figures including Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Principal Advisor (Media) to Chief Minister Naresh Chauhan, MLA Harish Janartha, and Mayor Shimla Surender Chauhan, among others.
