Dodra-Kwar, Shimla | June 17 — Raising a red flag on the rising threat of drugs in even the remotest pockets of Himachal, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Monday urged the people of Dodra-Kwar to stay alert and united in the battle against drug abuse.

Calling the drug menace a “slow poison” threatening the youth of Devbhoomi, the Governor warned that drug traffickers have now started spreading their networks in far-flung tribal areas like Dodra-Kwar by shifting to synthetic and psychotropic substances.

“Today, even the innocent rural youth are not safe. Drug peddlers are changing tactics.

We need to be more vigilant than ever. The fight against drugs must come from within the community,” said the Governor, addressing a packed gathering of villagers at the Jal Shakti Guest House in Kwar despite heavy rain.

This marked the first-ever visit by a sitting Governor to the region, tucked away in the high-altitude interiors of Shimla district.

The Governor’s interaction turned into a call-to-action. He hailed the efforts of local MLA Mohan Lal Brakta, who has pledged to run awareness drives across his constituency. “I have come to these remote hills because we cannot allow this poison to spread in the land of gods and warriors,” the Governor said.

He particularly appealed to women and Mahila Mandals to lead the awareness campaign, saying, “Women are the backbone of our society. Their leadership will make this movement stronger and more impactful.”

In a symbolic gesture, the Governor flagged off a rally of local school children carrying placards and raising slogans against drug abuse, sending out a strong message across the valley.

Also present were Secretary to the Governor C.P. Verma, ADC Abhishek Verma, SDM Dharmesh Kumar, Panchayat heads, BDC members, Mahila Mandals, and locals — all echoing a unified voice against the growing drug threat.
